The most important thing to do when you want to get your sexy back is to commit.  Will power and discipline are a huge part of succeeding.  Once you’ve made up your mind, the most important thing you can do is show up.  When you show up, you win.

You can easily undo all the work you did in your workout if you slip up and consistently take in more calories than you burn.  That is where calorie tracking comes into play.  You can either meal prep and try to be mindful to stop eating when you feel full or make more health-conscious choices, or you can enlist an app to help with calorie tracking.  I have used Lose It in the past and it’s a helpful free tool that allows you to stay on track with your diet.

When I moved to a new city – I found people in my network (neighbors and colleagues) who are members of Orange Theory Fitness (OTF), where I had been working out in Chicago before relocating, and we made the pact to motivate each other and hold each other accountable.  I joined OTF Poway as a gift to myself for my 37 th  birthday (11/23/17).  The workouts are great because they do everything they can to take your mind off the fact that you’re working out, creating more of a party atmosphere.  They BLAST awesome music, crank the A/C so you don’t get too hot, switch up the routine every single day (no two workouts are ever the same) and there is variety throughout every workout because you switch from running, to rowing, to weight lifting/TRX.  For someone like me who is either sitting at a desk grinding, out meeting with clients, or at home taking care of the fam, it’s the perfect workout to go and crank out.

The best part of OTF is that you get results!  Anytime I had an event coming up where I needed to get into a certain outfit, so long as I planned a couple weeks in advance and committed to attending OTF 4x / week, I would feel the difference.

When I first joined I took it slow, attending a couple times per week, but as the year progressed and my fitness level advanced, I started feeling the need to go more.  When 2 of my three children started school in the fall and I realized I would be tied up dropping the kids at two different schools in the morning (preschool and kindergarten), I realized I would have to do something that I had feared most of my life.

Start waking up SUPER EARLY to get my workout done before the kids wake up.  I admit, it was really scary at first.  I was waking up at 4:45am to make a 5am workout.  My brain was barely awake. The idea of running at 5:10am was not very appealing.

But – it’s important to start with the end in mind.  As they say at OTF – Goals are Dreams with Deadlines.  So, I made a pact with myself that I would try 1 month of working out 5x per week at 5am.  And after 1 month of executing on my plan, I was hooked.

As I sit here today, I am leaner, stronger and I have more energy and less anxiety than ever before.  The coaches at OTF do a great job of connecting to their clients on a personal and emotional level – motivating and truly coaching clients to push themselves to achieve their goals. The members give you the accountability, support and community you need to keep showing up. I’m so glad I prioritized my health through a commitment to movement.
